INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Metro State's
Anthony Luna broke his own school record for the second time in less than a week in the 800 meter run, breaking it at the American Milers Club Series in Indianapolis, Ind., on Wednesday evening. Additionally, Luna became the first Roadrunner to qualify for the USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in school history.
Luna ran in a time of 1:47.90, taking fourth place out of 26 runners, many of which were professional runners. His previous record of 1:48.51 was set on Saturday at the same competition in Indianapolis. On Wednesday, the pressure was on as he had to run the race in 1:48.45 or faster to qualify for the USA Championships.
The junior from Westminster, Colo., won NCAA Division II championships in the 800 meter run at both the indoor and outdoor national meets this spring. He became Metro State's first-ever national champion in track.
The USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships will be held in Eugene, Ore., from June 25-28. Fellow teammate
Scott Ingram, a freshman from Parker, Colo., will compete in the Junior USA Track & Field Championships in the 1500m run, also held in Eugene on the same dates.
