Anthony Luna (pictured at the NCAA Outdoor Championships) will look to qualify for the USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships this week.
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Metro State's Anthony Luna broke his own school record in the 800 meter run on Saturday, competing at the American Milers Club track meet in Indianapolis, Ind.  He ran the race in 1:48.51, breaking his own record of 1:49.25 set in 2008.  He also took fourth in his heat, finishing behind three professional runners.  The winner finished less than half a second ahead of Luna in 1:48.27.

The junior from Westminster will run again in Indianapolis on June 17, hoping to qualify for the USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, which will be held in Eugene, Ore., from June 25-28.  The qualifying standard for the 800m at the USA Championships is 1:48.45.

Freshman Scott Ingram has already qualified for the USA Junior Outdoor Track & Field Championships in the 1500m run.  The Junior USA Championships will also be held in Eugene from June 25-28.

Luna and Ingram both competed at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships in May.  Luna won the national championship in the 800m run after winning the same race at the Indoor Championships in March.  Ingram did not reach the finals in the 1500m.
